Pennsylvania Launches Online Voter Registration Website

National Voters Registration DayAs of Thursday, August 23, Pennsylvania residents can register to vote online. Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes made the announcement Thursday at the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, flanked by voting advocates and county elections officials.

“It will make registering more convenient and accessible for voters, while saving money and time for county voter registration staff,” Mr. Cortes said according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Women Veterans ROCK! is proud to be a partner of National Voters Registration Day on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. We encourage you to “Get involved & Register to Vote!” by visiting www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org and using the hashtag #CelebrateNVRD on Twitter.

Susan Carty Vote NowIn an article published on the League of Women Voters Pennsylvania (LWVPA) website, Board President Susan Carty writes:

“In addition to being easier and more convenient, online registration ensures that every eligible Pennsylvania voter can make his or her voice heard. Far too many of our citizens, especially veterans, seniors and working people don’t participate in our democratic process. During Pennsylvania’s last statewide election, just 35% of eligible citizens voted. One reason for this low turnout is that one out of every five eligible Pennsylvanians wasn’t registered to vote in the first place. Online registration will help veterans, seniors and disabled citizens register quickly and easily, without having to leave their homes. And busy working families, particularly parents, are more likely to register using an online system.

Online registration is also more efficient than our current paper-based system, saving taxpayer dollars. We know this because the states that already have online registration save between 50 cents and two dollars on every registration that’s filed electronically.

To Register to Vote, You Must Be:

  • A citizen of the US for at least 1 month before the next election
  • 18 years old by the date of the next election, and
  • A resident of Pennsylvania and your election district for at least 30 days
