Women Veterans ROCK! Partners with The Metro to Employ More Women Veterans

The MetroWashington, D.C. (October 28, 2013) – The “Women Veterans ROCK!” Advocacy Campaign announces a new strategic alliance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to recruit and hire more qualified women veterans into jobs within the transportation industry.

Presently, The Metro is seeking to hire more qualified Women Veterans to fill open positions within the transit authority.  These career opportunities include open positions in areas such as: Transit Operators; Transit Police; Mechanics; Human Resources; Information Technology; Program Managers; Logistics and many other great career opportunities are now available for veterans at www.wmata.com/careers.

As a leader in the transportation industry, and a recognized veteran-friendly employer, The Metro strives to attract and retain top-quality military veteran candidates.

“Our new strategic alliance with “Women Veterans ROCK!” further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to support women veterans in establishing and building careers within the transportation industry,” says Maurice Blue, Senior Sourcing Officer for Military Recruitment at The Metro.  “The Metro provides military veterans with unique opportunities to utilize skills they developed in military service.  We are encouraged that our strategic alliance with “Women Veterans ROCK!” will lead to the hiring of even more qualified women veterans within the ranks of The Metro.”

“Women Veterans ROCK!” is a coalition of women veteran organizations and women advocacy organizations stepping up to assist women veterans in the successful transition from military service back into civilian life.  The organization aims to shorten the overall time span between military transition and securing civilian career opportunities for America’s women veterans.

“Our goal is to aid the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in sourcing qualified Women Veterans who are seeking diverse career opportunities in transportation. We are eager to support the regional transit authority in their efforts to continue to increase the number of transitioning women veterans working within the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority,” says Deborah Harmon-Pugh, President of The Healthy Caregiver Community Foundation and Campaign Chair of “Women Veterans ROCK!”
