Women Vets ROCK! Receives $23,000 Donation from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In Support of America’s Military Women

Washington, D.C. (November 30, 2015) – Women Veterans ROCK! and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, an international sorority that works to educate the public, assist youth, provide scholarships, support organized charities, and promote legislation for social and civic change, celebrated the first year of their five-year enduring partnership this month with a nationwide Military Appreciation Week from November 8 to November 14.

“We thank our members and women across our great nation for the service they have made to ensure that we, as citizens, can enjoy our rights,” said Mary Breaux Wright, International President, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated kicked off the celebration on November 7 by hosting a reception at Fort Belvoir military base in Virginia. Members of the sorority’s Military Advisory Board and international leadership gathered to discuss ways the sorority could engage, inspire and empower women and girls in military families to successfully transition from military service to civic and community leadership.

During the reception, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated presented Women Veterans ROCK!, a national advocacy campaign focused on increasing social awareness of the accomplishments and challenges America’s military women face in their post-military lives, with a $20,000 contribution, which grew to $23,000 in subsequent weeks, to support workforce and leadership development programs for America’s military women.

“Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has taken on the mission to help increase awareness of the sacrifices and contributions made by America’s veterans and military families,” said US Army Major Natasha Sunday Clarke, National Military Attaché of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. “With this first year donation of $23,000 to Women Veterans ROCK, a worthy organization that promotes awareness of the challenges military women experience and overcome, we are building partner capacity throughout our sisterhood as well as in the communities we serve.”

“Women Veterans ROCK is excited and humbled by the nationwide support from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated,” said Deborah Harmon-Pugh, National Campaign Chair of Women Veterans ROCK!

“Zeta Phi Beta is the first and only Greek Letter Organization with a nationwide initiative dedicated to transitioning women veterans and all military women. We deeply appreciate their enduring vote of confidence in our work in workforce and leadership development for today’s women & girls in military families,” said Harmon-Pugh.

Over the last six years, the Women Veterans ROCK! Advocacy Campaign has served more than 7,500 military women and their families by providing them with access to health resources, community service organizations, and career and professional development for military families transitioning from military service back into civilian life.

In 2015, it launched the inaugural class of The Women Veterans Civic Leadership Institute (WVCLI), a one-year fellowship program fueled by the desire to “Build a Lasting Legacy in Civic Leadership.” Delivered in partnership with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the Institute admits women veterans, active duty and reserve servicewomen, military spouses, and military moms and is dedicated to transforming the can-do spirit of military service into a post-military spirit of civic and community leadership. The inaugural class of the Women Veterans Civic Leadership Institute Fellows is scheduled to graduate on December 13, 2015.
